If the wheel pulls left and A/D do nothing, check input mode and conflicting devices separately. One player reported recovery after removing vJoy; another only got the wheels centered, with keyboard steering still broken. Holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse is a reported temporary alternative, not a keyboard fix.[1][3]
Which steering problem do you have?
| Symptom | Why it matters | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Wheels pull left with no input | VIVIRO and ILC3150 describe this alongside ineffective A/D. | Note whether holding the left mouse button changes the behavior.[1][2] |
| Mouse steering works, A/D does not | Centering and keyboard control are separate outcomes. | Retest both after each change, rather than stopping when the wheel looks straight.[1] |
| A controller or wheel is not detected | Hardware mapping can be a different problem from keyboard input. | Record the device model and whether separate pedal / virtual controller devices are active.[2] |
Check the input path, one change at a time
- Confirm the intended control mode. Note whether you are using keyboard/mouse, a gamepad or a wheel. Keep your chosen mode consistent while reproducing the symptom.
- Make a list of active input devices. Include virtual controllers and devices left connected from another game. In ILC3150’s thread, hellhunter454 describes an unrelated flight control causing input trouble in their own experience; that is a reason to inspect inputs, not proof of this bug’s cause.[2]
- Temporarily disconnect unused physical controllers. Reopen the game and compare the same symptom. This is a reversible isolation check; we have not measured its success rate in CPM 2.
- If vJoy is installed, inspect that specific branch. The successful reporter in VIVIRO’s thread removed the vJoy device through Windows Device Manager → Human Interface Devices, then restarted. Only consider that report if the named device exists and you understand what uses it. Do not remove unrelated HID devices.[1]
- Retest wheel centering and A/D independently. Legend’s follow-up says the vJoy route centered the wheels but did not restore A/D. If yours behaves the same way, record a partial result rather than calling it fixed.[1]
What the reports actually say
| Report | Result | Evidence limit |
|---|---|---|
| VIVIRO · 8 Oct | Restarting, changing accounts, checking bindings and disabling Steam Input did not solve that case. | Negative results from one setup; not proof those checks never help.[1] |
| vJoy reporter · 9 Oct | Reports centered wheels and working keyboard control after vJoy removal and restart. | One self-reported success; virtual-controller conflicts are not a confirmed universal cause.[1] |
| Legend · 10 Oct | Reports centered wheels but continued reliance on mouse steering. | A direct counterexample to an all-in-one fix claim.[1] |
| Reddit A/D bug thread | PuriPuri-BetaMale reports holding LMB and steering with the mouse as the only available workaround in their case. | Temporary alternative control, not repaired A/D or controller compatibility.[3] |
Need to move the car now?
For the matching mouse-steering symptom, hold the left mouse button and move the mouse. Two problem threads describe this behavior. Try it in a low-pressure session first, and stop if the vehicle remains unpredictable. This may let you drive while gathering better evidence; it does not restore the keyboard input you wanted.[1][3]
Still broken? Send a useful report.
Record the game build, Windows version, input mode, keyboard/controller/wheel models, virtual-input software, whether the wheels center, and whether A/D works after each change. Include a short clip showing idle steering and the keys you press. Do not attach account credentials.
